Two suggestions :
First : altars in Scorn are only level 100, and the other day i could convert one to Devourers (my god). Either this is intentional (high level players can orient the religious feeling of the city by converting the altars) either these should be made level 120 (nobody will be able to convert them).
Second : everybody cast portals in the portgate map to the port. That's horrible. Could'nt we make this map nomagic, and add a building near it where people could cast portals ?

Altars and portals

Intentional or not, I don't see anything wrong with converting altars in town..
1) The map will reset and altar will go back to normal
2) Players should look before they pray
3) I think it's part of the game to be able to convert altars to your god..
As far as the portals go.. Why oh WHY can't you put one in your apartment? I wish that were possible! If I let someone into my apartment and they rob me, shame on me.. Use with care, basically..

1 - yes, they will reset 2 hours later. That's 1 hour, 59 minutes and 59 seconds to really mess up things for another player and their experience gained in praying.Zortan wrote:Intentional or not, I don't see anything wrong with converting altars in town..

2 - players have no warning that the altar has changed, until they pray on it. I do not want to deal with the hassle warning players to pray on an altar once and double check that it's to the god they think it is; if it is, continue praying. If not, wait 2 hours, etc.
3 - and you can, there are several non-aligned altars on various maps for you to freely do this.
You named one reason. Another reason is how apartment maps work - you will have a permanent portal back to your apartment and won't be able to have another one anywhere else in the world.Zortan wrote: As far as the portals go.. Speaking of Portals.. How come the apartments don't permit getting more teleporters, kind of like guilds do? Not everyone is in a guild, and sometimes you have to walk far to get to a guild with a portal you need (like to ancient pupland)..
I guess it would be nice to have similar ability to open up portals in your apartment to far and away places..
Just a suggestion

Re: Altars and portals
Yup. Another player, who shall remain nameless, changed all the altars to Valriel level 110. A newbie player (someone who has played for less than 6 months I consider a newbie) lost 15 praying levels because of it. The altars in newbie areas should be inviolate. A veteran player should know better than to do that sort of thing in newbie areas.Azriel wrote:First : altars in Scorn are only level 100, and the other day i could convert one to Devourers (my god). Role playing is fine and good and part of the game. But veteran players that role play in a way that harms newbies should expect to get in a wee bit o' "hot water" with the DMs when caught. Otherwise why have a jail and jail time at all? You do the crime you do the time.

Well, making the map "nomagic" would also prevent using dimension door to pass the gates. So, perhaps make that map deny casting of town portal like is done in apartments. The idea of a "town portal building" in Scorn is appealing. Perhaps make it a pay to enter area like the alchemy room, smithery, etc. so we have something else on which to spend our huge amounts of platinum.Azriel wrote:Second : everybody cast portals in the portgate map to the port. Needless to say, that veteran player did get into hot water and did not make many DM friends..poof wrote:Yup. Another player, who shall remain nameless, changed all the altars to Valriel level 110. It'd be hard to forbid town portal only on portgate.poof wrote: Well, making the map "nomagic" would also prevent using dimension door to pass the gates. Apartments can't have town portal because they are unique maps (easy to check condition). Portgate is a regular map, thus you can't forbid town portal - short of non-magic. Of course you could, but that'd require some bit of coding.

Re: Altars and portals
I thought there was the possibility to specify a map as "no town portal" or "no word of recall"Ryo wrote: It'd be hard to forbid town portal only on portgate.

Or, am I remembering incorrectly here?
I agree with Zortan : i don't see anything wrong with converting the altars. But to avoid any bad surprise, i think the face of the altar must change when you convert it. If you see a black altar with a skull on it, you will guess that it is not Gaea...
One could add a "angry floor" and a detector to make the priest angry, and fight the heretic.
About portals : adding a fee to use it will just move the problem : people will cast town portal in temples, etc... And a small fee (say 100pp) is nothing compared to the million platinum everybody
has in is apt. If we put a big fee, nobody will go...

Change the tiles in Scorn Port to no-magic and it will prevent people from casting spells there period..
I don't see what the big deal is.. You go to Scorn Port and see bunch of white-circles.. It's not like they impede your progress.. It just makes you wonder where everybody went (I'll click on some of them out of curiosity
I still wish there was a gate spell.. similar to town portal, but targetted, meaning you could cast gate Zortan to open a "town portal" from where you're casting to me..
