are you wondering What the heck is a Wiki?

Post by Avion »

Well the Crossfire Wiki is not such an obscure things as that, it is a user editable subsection of the Crossfire Documentation website where people can create and maintain pages dedicated to aspects of Crossfire. We do ask not to put up spoiler information (monster descriptions wouldn't be considered spoiler information, while the answer to a riddle would be...) or the sort of player information which would better be seen on the Official Crossfire site. The intention is provide a place to collaborate on things like player manuals, code descriptions, code explanations, code proposals, town histories, monster and artifact biographies, How-to's...

There will be more documentation type stuff coming to the site soon (as soon as I can convert the docs to structured text. If you want a sneak peek at the document section you can try http://crossfire.freezope.org/docs/developer_docs (it might still be working)

Wiki's are by nature mutable and require active participation to thrive so the more people dig in, the better it will be. If you have never used Wiki or structured text before, it is helpful to visit the help sections and the sandbox where you can practice making formatting errors.

Anyway hope to see you there.

In relation to the Wiki...

Should we setup a Forum on here to discuss questions, ideas, changes for the Wiki?

One thing I've encounted, when I want to edit a page, the text select box is tiny (around 300px wide by 100px high, using Mozilla 1.3 on RH 7.3) Any way to work around that?

I'm using an older version of Zwiki here than I am used to , but I should be able to change that by editing the forms. I'll try to get to this soon.

You can discuss these things here or you can make a wiki page like SuggestionBox or something.

easier done than said...
I made the text area 40 x 100 default you can change this setting in the UserOptions if you have cookies enabled as well.

Probably more convenient for a suggestion box or TODO list within the Wiki itself.

They look/work good now. Thanks!

It takes a while to get into the swing of things for sure, but the defaults are more important than the cookies since cookies get deleted, but defaults live forever. This would be different if this was wiki required pasword authentication (I went for no to this, but we will see if this is wise policy over time.) Comments can also work based on cookies so if you put in your name in the UserOptions it will be included with your coments and edits as long as you hold the cookie. Again this is the only way to do it without a login and mostly people just add their name manually anyway. Back to the point, any layout change requests are appreciated.
As for the SuggestionBox, well the thing about Wiki is you can make new pages simply by typing a WikiName or a [Link in brackets]...

How about basing the layout off this Wiki?
