I may have a clue for you Ryo.

On my XP home edition system:
To get the client running I had to copy all the folders from the GTK 2.0 library to the client folder. Then I also had to copy the contents of the GTK lib folder up one step in the hierachry to the client folder.

Why? I dont know, I wouldn't understand the code even if you flogged me for a month. :)

Well, it does fix (for some people). But it's a dirty hack :)
So i'd rather find the correct registry key to set to make everything work nicely. Note that copying is a pain, specially when you'll have to upgrade gtk...

Hey! I just installed the client at work and just know the Boss is going to kill me this time. :)

Checked the registry on this machine (XP pro) but did not find any registry entries at all for the client.

I found the GTK library path in there though.
Isn't that enough for the client installer?

Hey again! Maybe it works if you install the GTK libraries first?

I didn't have any issue whatsoever, without any key for the client. But then, I think i have GTK's libraries in my PATH, and stuff like that.

So I want to find what registry key exactly to put, how to fix stuff, so the installer can do things correctly :)

(not everyone feels like moving gtk files around)

I know! Let's make it a contest. The one that figures out the right registry key to put in wins a Beelzebubs sword. :)

Just kidding.
If I come up with something useful I'll tell you all, but I think not in this case.

Anyway Ryo has done a great job for all us using Windows. Crossfire is a addictively fun game and I was very glad to find it was done for the platform I use.

Thanks Ryo.

Actually, no, I didn't do that much.
Most of the porting work was done by Somebdy, some months ago.

I just made a broken installer

I hope I didn't upset someone....
Maybe I am blind or something but I cant find a maintainer for the Win version. Or is it that the code is so portable that there's no need for it?

Anyway it seemes to me that it's easier to get the client and server running under Win than it is to get it in the right place to run......or something. :?

I'll quit gibbering for now. :)

Actually, I'm am the Windows maintainer :)
But the client port is mostly the work of Somebdy.

The code is kind of portable, though it needs some specific tweaks now & then (that's why script support doesn't work under Windows, for instance)
