Me too Zortan...

I found it one day in a Comp Sci lab and have not been able to leave it alone for long since then :)

on the other hand my GPA took a nose dive and I have not been back to the U since ;)

Wow, you folks have been around longer then I have.

I seem to recall early '94 and Crossfire was replacing my MUD addiction, er.. I mean recreational playing.

It was probably 3 or 4 months before someone told me the password to get out of the Scorn gates. I was thrilled to see an entire world to explore (level 12 or 13 and never left the "old" scorn.. sheesh! )

The other thing I remember - is the really old bug where you coudl crash the client and as long as that did not crash the server then there would be an exact copy off your entire inventory left on the ground where you were :!:  :D

made it very easy to create so-called god weapons - which made the Quetzalcoatl the ultimate char... incredibly fast - immune to Fire  and able to weild nasty weapons...

of course at that time they could also wear certain kinds of armour as well... :)

also the Stormbringer was the ultimate weapon as it put all of your kill exp into whatever skill you wanted it too ...

ah the memories...

Does anyone have _old_ screenshots of Crossfire? Since I have only been around for few years it could be interesting to see some..

How old are the screenshots at the homepage by the way?

Well there used to be quite a few sites for Crossfire back in Tha' Day :)

Now there's really just the server sites and Real-Time...

I was able to find one of the old sites here: http://www.montefiore.ulg.ac.be/~quinet ... re-en.html
Its been up for what seems like a decade without many changes so... I hope it'll stay up for awhile longer

and also a screenshot of an older version of the cfclient here:
http://www.games.ru/games/linux/screens ... ssfire.gif

Other than those (courtesy of Google) I think we'd have to compile an old server and client and get screenshots that way

The screenshots on Real-Time are moslty from the newer clients and servers... post 1.3.0 I think...

Actually, those are not "original" screen shots..

The original crossfire had alot of yellow and black (xpm?) and I see now the site that used them is no longer available. =(

I remember that bug! Don't quite remember how it worked, but I do remember it!

I also remember being able to throw a large fireball through a store door and burn the whole inventory down :)

..Also, there was a wyvern blocking the eastern exit out of scorn and there was a library building with a BUNCH of spell books which were worth a LOT of money for someone with dimension door (you could actually do it then before it became blocked to dimension door)..

There was a titan and a dragon guarding the area so you had to be careful or loose all the books..

..Ahh memories..

Congratulations, you are the first top poster I have seen in CFMB.

Anyway, wasn't it just a while ago that the shop teleporters were changed so that players couldn't burn/freeze/whatever the items in the shop (or perhaps they modified the rest of the tiles to disallow spellcasting)?

I remember killing people in the shops using spells..

Heh.. I also remember being mean and nasty sometimes and burning a store while someone was looking for spellbooks or rings  .. It was quite enjoyable to fill a store with gravestones..
