5 tricky qestions.

Post by New oldie »

I seem to get message something like "Equipping that combined with ....Would consume your soul."
I get it alot... my Barbarian Dwarf lvl 1 could not wield Unicorn horn.
My lvl7 Fireborn Mage could not wear ring of Free Action....etc.
:?: 1. Why ? What can I do? How can I know if its going to happen ?(What shall I look for?) Buying a FA ring for $$$$ is costly.

:?: 2. What limitations are there... Can Any Character learn all spells and all prayers? (With talismans etc)

:?: 3. Is attune ... cumulative?

:?: 4. Stat Potions I know what it is. Improvement potions, whats that? All potions seems VERY rare, you never find any when you need them.

Some spells take forever to cast... Like Create bomb, when I have casted it, I cannot runaway rightaway, my character is stuck for 2 sec...If I cast 2...well you know why I am upset.
:?: 5. How can I improve this? Shall it be like this?

I played this game in 1990... it was alot simpler, but basicly the same, smaller and less complex, but not as fun.

1) Each item has an 'item power', the sum of this field for equipped item can not be over your level. To see what item power you can use, try the 'skills' command, it'll display 'your equipped item power is x out of y'. It'll also obviously display the current sum of equipped items' item power. So you'll be able to apply an item if its item power + your current item power is < your max item power.

2) Some spells are reserved for followers of certain gods. Any spell you can find on a book can be learned. You can learn all skills except meditation and levitation (i think), which are special skills for monks resp. dragon (maybe other class?)

3) For a dragon yes. Now if you have an item with attuned path and another item with another path, i _think_ that it'll cumulate, too.

4) Improvement potions are interesting over level 10, iirc. They will increase max hp / max gr / max sp, up to a certain value.
Each level has a multiplier/random value associated for hp/gr/sp, improvement potion will maxout that value. Drink as many as you can, till you are over level 10 (iirc) AND the game says 'you are already perfect'

5) Some spells, apparently mostly summoning spells, now take time after casting. It's a pain, not sure how it was decided / which spells exactly have that delay (died also because of too many earth walls, once). Not sure either on how to improve that.

Hope this helps :)

Ah, thank you. This is something I had a question about too. I finally got my hands on an improvement potion, and it said "you become more perfect"... but I did "statistics" both before and after, and they were exactly the same. The previous time I tried an improvement potion, was after having died a few times with no potion of life, and that time it did raise some of my stats. Is it impossible to permanently improve your stats beyond what you rolled when you first started your character (other than by wearing special items)?

There are permanent stat potions which will raise your stats up to your racial maximum.

The stat potions are on a 1:1 ratio. Drink one potion, raise your score by 1.

Visit the second floor at the Gates of Hell quest (it's safe.. ) to view what the potions look like.

Visit the website to view the maximum stats based on race:

If I recall right, potion of improvement raises character's hp (and sp?) , not stats.

Potions of Improvement add to Hps then Sp and the Gr - in that order - the amount added to the Max of that stat is random - most I've seen is 6 points - least is 1

First Improv Pot - Hps +

Second Improv Pot - Sp +

Third Improv Pot - Gr +

and so on.. until perfect :)

For the first 10 levels, a player gets a random value for HPs, SPs and GR. Improvement potion will just raise this value to its maximum allowed value, thus increasing max HP/SP/GR.

To expand on this list, other skills that are unique to a particular class and/or race and can't be found on scrolls are:

clawing
flametouch
Frogwad

"3. Is attune ... cumulative?"

I took this question as if someone had two things that made him attuned fire, would fire be even more damaging than just single attuned?

So far I don't think this is true. But it would be neet to have this happen.
Though if you were to do use this, I would suggest a negative attunation to result too. Example: if someone has a lvl 2 fire attunation, then they should be repelled cold. or maby even all elements.

just a possibilty
