Dragon of Chaos Residue for dragon players

Post by SilverNexus »

I have been tossing the idea for an ancient chaos elemental residue around in my mind for a while now, and I think I've figured out a way it could work.

1. The item will be a quest reward for dragon players (could be incorporated into an existing quest or a quest of its own)
a. The Dragon Guild in Navar could drop clues as to such a quest and/or item
2. A dragon player would be able to use the item only if they have levels in all four other elemental type
a. if the dragon character does not have the prerequisite levels in the other types, the residue does nothing
3. It would grant the following abilities at five-level intervals:
a. attuned to chaos (or whatever the spell "create pool of chaos" is under)
b. chaos claw attacktype
c. create pool of chaos spell ability
4. The black dragon from the cold dragon image set would be moved to the chaos dragon; the blue dragon from the electric dragon image set would be moved to the cold dragon; a yellow dragon image set would be added for the electric dragon.

Looks like a well planned out idea - nicely done.

Keep in mind, this would require server side code changes as well.

About the only thing that wouldn't obviously have to be changed is the client.
There would be changes to every other section (server, arch, map).

At the bare minimum, the server-side changes would be:
a. handling for the new residue (including the level checks for focus types and abilities gained)
b. modified handling of the dragon player images (to include the chaos dragon; the others would only have to be renamed appropriately)
c. any quest addition/changes that end up requiring server code modifications.
d. a method to determine if the player eating the residue has the necessary prerequisites to utilize it. (a checkinv-type system could work if it can check the attributes of the item and not just its existence)

Though I will note that adding a resistance to chaos available through flesh is unnecessary; not even chaos dragons have chaos resistance, so it would not make sense for the player to suddenly be able to resist chaos.

I will also note that I have previously made an electric dragon hatchling image set that resembles the player character that works well, except that some floors (like the dirt floor in the downstairs of the Scorn zoo) obscure them quite well.

Which leads me to realize that the substitution of player colors from this idea would also allow for the dragon hatchling monsters to have their two-direction face sets replaced with the player face sets that correspond with their elemental focus.

My inspection of the chaos dragon archetype also showed me that chaos dragons do not have chaos attacktype. Instead their attacktype (29) comprises of physical, fire, electricity, and cold. This could indicate that the player might not get the chaos claw attacktype, for consistency purposes. It also shows that perhaps poison elemental focus might not be required (in high quantity, maybe a minimum of one level) for the residue to work. Or the chaos dragon and wyvern could gain the poison attacktype, along with some appropriate resistance and level modifications, making them cover all the elemental focuses (they already have poison cloud, so it would make sense based on the order of gains the residue provides).

EDIT: At this point, I still need to figure what quest would work for this. It possibly could have something to do with the dragonlords, and either be located in the dragonlords' lair or with Ruggilli's Whisker. Or it could be its own independent quest. I haven't decided yet.
