Playing on Metalforge, tried this on latest Windows client in both Win7 and WinXP, casting Cure Disease disease via either a Cure Disease scroll or paying for it at the House of Healers in Scorn will not cure whatever disease you're afflicted with. In the case of the House of Healers, you get the "the altar cast cure disease" message, but you don't get any message about feeling better as you'd expect!
I tried this with scrolls of leprosy (accidentally infected myself), and when I tried to cure it I was still losing flakes of skin like crazy. Though maybe it was just the House of Healers altar that was busted, and bought a scroll of Cure Disease, but when I saw that didn't work either (I made sure I didn't use it in a magic-restricted area) I panicked and left the game via a bed to reality. When I logged back in, my leprosy had been cured. It's almost as though the spell fails to apply the cure effect until you leave the game and re-enter. Cure Disease is apparently neglecting to actually cure you when you cast it, and instead waits to apply the effect until you leave and re-enter the game?!
I also tried this with lvl 110 scrolls of Cause Cold and Cause Flu - infecting myself then running to the House of Healers, altar would not actually cure me from those diseases either. By then my movement was too slow to reach a bed to reality, but I imagine the same quirk would happen too - if after casting Cure Disease I reached a bed and left & re-entered the game, I probably would have been cured.
This also applies to minor diseases caused by needles. Again on Metalforge server I purposefully set off a diseased needle to give myself warts as a human, this time using the JX Client, used a scroll of cure disease in an area I knew spells were allowed, only got the "scroll of cure disease turns to dust" with no message saying it had been cured, still had warts.
Cure Disease no longer works!
