linux client 1.50.0: dies in libglade

I downloaded crossfire-client-1.50.0.tar.gz, configured and built it on a Debian (AMD64 HW) system, but it won't start:

Is this a known issue? I don't find anything when searching. What do you need to see to help me track it down?
