- Changing the cost of spells mechanic. Instead of a fixed price with a fixed output, a minimum and a maximum price incremented by some "other" value. The a spells affect or damage being based in part on a caster level, in part by a base line damage, and mostly by how much power was committed to a spell.
Thus removing separate degrees of spell ("small fireball, fireball, and large fireball"), and replacing it with a single variable version ("fireball"). - Add parallel plains of existence that link into the world map (or pockets there of) in some set ratio. For example, in "master of magic" if a ocean was in the way, you could shift over to another plain of existence that could bridge the gap, cross it, and then shift back to continue on your way.
Another example would be fast travel. Instead of linking directly to a parallel x and y on another plain, link at a ratio of 1:0.1. So every tile travelled on 'this other plane' would be ten tiles travel on the world map.
Also, it would allow complete divergences of the normal rules and look of the current game to be explored as anyone saw fit to add them. - A new magic skill system. Instead of the current system, spell point and/or grace based spell would each have a single mast "skill" counting for ~50% of a level. With a second skill for each path of magic counting for the other 50%.
- A new form of magic. Instead of drawing power from a player, each map would have a ambient power "level". A play could then 'inscribe" a rune or device that would draw power from the map and not the player. Instead of costing sp or grace, the system would cost in coins (precious metals) and always be cast from a fixed location/rune on the map.
This rune would then act like a glowing crystal, constantly drawing power from the map or being charged by a player. When the object reach a set peek, it would invoke either a existing spell or something entire new.
Alternately it could be used to automatically recast a existing protect or power-up spell as need and as able.

Magic, planes, and random fun.
I had a few idea a while back that I wanted to add. The first two being ideas from a game called "master of magic".
