Female Option
Say I know that in nethack you can choose an option of male of female, why not have the same in crossfire?
In nethack, females are able to lay eggs (when polymorphed into an egg laying creature), while males are not. Also polymorphing, there is a chnace of changing sex. There are behavioural differences around incubi/succubi, (which one is attracted to you, what they will do with regard to rings, etc). These actually make a difference to game play.
In crossfire, none of these situations are replicated. I don't see how the sex of the character would make a difference to game play. Did you have something specific in mind?

It wouldn't be hard to add some option, but as noted, right now it would have little/no effect. So it is a fairly meaningless distinction right now.
I'm also not sure, but I have a feeling a lot of messages within the game are hard coded to presume a male character.
For example, in the scorn nobility quest, messages are coded for baron/lord/duke, etc, not baroness, lady, or duchess. It'd be a fair amount of work to fix all those, and I'm not even positive right now how all those would be fixed (it'd almost need something like alternative messages based on sex of character)

It is somewhat amusing how the board changes the other word for gender into "SPAM" in postingsEstel wrote:In nethack, females are able to lay eggs (when polymorphed into an egg laying creature), while males are not. It could be interesting if also monsters had gender, and it would effect how they respond to attempts to charm or subdue them. Of course, the ultimate non-politically-correct scenario where the player gets molested by monsters of the opposite gender immediately also comes to mind...

Alchemy has a bit of gender
A couple of recipes need "a man's eye", or "a woman's eye".
But those are ingredients from monsters, not other players.
I'm almost sure that there is no recipe that actually requires parts from other player characters - the most you could get is a finger in any case.
Some monsters may have some presumed sex - there are various humans whose description gives a clue to what they are (pirate lass is pretty clearly female). However, nothing in that monster actually says it is female - as far as the game is concerned, everything is just a monster, and they don't have any gender either.
Giving player characters a gender as said before would be hard, but would have no meaning, other than to say that this character is male or female - extra work would be needed within quests and maps to make it at all meaningful.

2 genders (male and female) and 4 races (human, elf, orc undead) , along with a brand new easy to edit questing system (no more silly complaints about changing titles lol) are all high priority features of Wograld, a crossfire fork.
