Crossfire user interface - why I hate it.

Post by Jastiv »

The thing I dislike the most about Crossfire would have to be the user interface.
It has that very 1980's Shadowgate style user interface. What I mean is that most of the screen is taken up with skills, stats, messages inventory etc, and not with the actual game world of your character, terrain and monsters. This is why games like Battle for Wesnoth have huge development teams and Crossfire does not.

You should be able to hide the menus when you play the game. What I am not sure is why crossfire was done that way. Is this a limitation of x11 and gtk, or is there something more to it? (like the developers personal obsession with menus you can't hide and forcing constant stat viewing on the user) Why can't it be tabed so that you can hide/show things like inventory. Why can't most of the character stats be hidden as well (except the ones you need to worry about like omg your dying mana, health, food)
