Cycle of eternal death, via alchemy, jams client!

Post by Mental Mouse »

I used the cauldron in my apartment to produce a particularly spectacular ..... -- 4-5 High Angels vs. a 9th level character! OK, my major error...

but the bug part is, every time I reappear in my bed, I get instantly killed -- not only is this a perma-death, stacking hundreds (make that thousands) of gravestones in a couple of minutes, but it's got the client so jammed I can't even quit the character!

Thoughts on a response to the circle of doom...

I just killed the client process-- Ghod knows what the server is doing!

Some possible responses to this (besides Don't Do That! ).

One option, perhaps the nicest, would be to make a newly-revived character untouchable until he moves or attacks from his damned bed. This would at least let the player recognize a hopeless case and quit out....

A more complex option would be for server and/or client to recognize instant-death-in-bed and offer a quit option, or at least introduce a few seconds delay.

It also occurs to me that putting a cauldron in the same room as a bed-to -reality is fundamentally unsafe!

And the server just kept at it...

Wasn't really hosing my system, but it was showing spikes in the load average. I finally killed and restarted it. The good news is that it came back without the monsters -- the character was blasted down to stats of all ones has advanced enough for that to be survivable -- he had a couple of SPL's tucked away.
