Crossfire is based signifiantly on nethack, right? and nethack have stamina. Thats the least important point, now lets go onto more serious explanation of my viewpoint.
Currently, the dextrous races are faster than these endure and strong. But that should be only true for short distances, so i propose that there should be additional bar showing players stamina. This stamina should be lost when casting spells or praying, but lost very slowly. However, it should be regained only when player is not doing any exhausting activity. Now, player should have a flag "max speed/fast/slow", where fast would be (75%) the speed like it is currently, slow would be walking (50%), when player does not lose any stamina, and max speed woud be highly exhausting, but would allow very fast movement, whats good in combat. When player is carrying a lot, he should be unable to use 'max speed', or even 'fast', and he should lose more stamina. Strong characters would be able to travel long distances faster even when carrying a lot of stuff, and endure characters would have more stamina, so they would be able to travel for longer time.
It would require a significant change in code, however, but please focus more on the idea itself, not technical problem - whould you think it would be a change for better?

There's already a loss of speed due to overloading, who depends on str. And this comes very early, ask a *born.kshinji wrote: When player is carrying a lot, he should be unable to use 'max speed', or even 'fast', and he should lose more stamina. With your system, no one will finish Valriel's 99 levels.

For the sake of discussion..bencha wrote: no. I fight monsters, then i change equip to id items and select those i want, then i wear my fighting/protective equipment, then i heal/pray/meditate, and then you want me to wait some more mins because i have to recover stamina ?
Stamina could become another "stat" like HP/Grace/SP
Introduce equipment that increases Stamina regeneration, like how +magic is for SP
Introduce spells that restore some amount of Stamina per casting, kind of like cure light wounds "restores" hit points.
Introduce potions that restore Stamina, like Potions of Magic restore Spell Points.
Food items that replenish Stamina, like how food "refills", well.. food

Damage types could target Stamina, equipment could be added to give partial resistances to that attack type.
The list goes on. But at some point, what does it add to the game?
Is it good or bad or a hindrance?
What will happen to existing player files? Updated or will they need to be reset?
Who is willing to take on the coding aspect of such a proposal?
