Stellar Flames

Post by bort »

Dude, I just played the demo of Stellar Flames for the Zaurus (works also in regular color PDAs too), and I was amazed by the SDL visual programming. The methods were fantastic, and it does open up the prospect that ?perhaps? you can 3d'ize Cf, at least to beta.

I think maybe more interestingly, it might mean that cf could be ported to pdas.

Anyone know how to compile software for them?

Well myself and bort were talking about pdas because mobile phones are crap.

On a pda though, I suspect that if you had a c compiler, and X, gtk2, pango & libgdk then it might just compile. (bar a few errors here and there).

The client would need reworking to cope with such a small resolution, however. This might be doable, I believe freeciv has already been ported to the zaurus, it is just a matter of finding someone who wants and is able to do it.

Heh. I find crossfire difficult to use at anything lower than 1280x1024 res :P But I like 1280x1024 best anyways :D

I find anything less than 2300-ishx1024 intolerable, but then I use split window mode across two monitors. :)

i'm rather happy with 1400x1050, though more would be better ;)

i wont mind to add a 17" tft with a good resolution (not a crappy 1280x1024 but rather 1600x1200)

on topic: sadly i dont have a pda or anything remotely similar (a ti-83 calculator wont count, i assume)

ON PDA's, some use the QT engine, qtopia. And if you really want to see an example of mobile gaming in a cf-like enviroment, look at the Wyvern client. If people can port it to Qtopia, java, etc,. The look could be condensed..

Qtopia is a varient of Qt, no?

I don't think there are many Qt coders working on crossfire, it uses gtk extensively.

Besides which Qt is normally written in C++ crossfire is in C.
