well then limit the amount of players, or just have the DM ask them to vote on the issue. Mostly for smaller things, and deciding on PK punishments. i know cursing and shouting is a problem on MF, but if the DMs or the users thought it was a problem, the DMs could ask the users what they think the punishment should be, or the users could suggest an appropriate punishment.

mostly im thinking about the last argument yugi had on chat, dealing with a missunderstanding on a bet placed in the areana.

im not the only one who thought it was annoying and flooding, but im sure i wasnt the only one who feels that a 24 hour muzzle for flooding is too harsh. that way, the users could suggest a suitable punishment, like "DM's, could we muzzle [party or parties] for 20 mins?" and then the DM asks for a vote, or mod to the sentence. so that would have shut them up, and not needed the a muzzle.

limiting the number of players seems harsh and arbitrary, who is 'in' and who is 'out', what criterea do you use?

getting dms to call a vote wouldn't work either, they already interfere too much, that will just encourage them....

how many are in. no more than 2 chars should be on the same ip... or 2 per computer, with changing dnses. but that could end up being a ... to program.

that is not a valid assumption. I know for a fact that at various times there have been 3 different players logged into metalforge from the same IP. I was one of them.

Likewise I know that there are players who run sockpuppets on remote servers, scanning by ip adress will not do that. (but will occasionally hurt at least me - even when I am not sockpuppeting.)

Well... I think a polling feature would be good. But I don't see it as being helpful to DM punishment decisions, though it might be a neat thing to have for other purposes

no, i think mostly if players want to vote to punish someone for being an ..., but its not entirely within the server rules. thats why this topic was under the metalforge sectoin. i was suggesting a change to MF's rules...

What you are suggesting isn't too dissimilar to what I want to end up with on a city-wide level. An idea of citizenship and status within cities, so that players who spend their time acting in service of their cities earn status in that city, and over time, grow to positions of power, ultimatly being able to expel or even exile others.

The problem of rigourous checking of sockpuppets remains however. (/me wonders if someone will end up passing the turing test with all the scripting that goes on.....)

well, if they can script that good, then they can use their computer to host ai bots. that way if a servers empty, youll still have people (or bots) to quest with...

but playing with bots is unfun, as it is most everyone using them so far has been fairly uninventive, using them merely to script an exploit of 'something'. (platinum into cauldrons, scrolls in the black market and summon pet monster were the preffered choice of the MF Damned Heretics dm contingent as I recall)
