I just recently downloaded crossfire and the editor I have even made a small town full of people and a sewer to kill stuff in but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to host a server. Any help would be appreciated I use Windows XP and I can do most Ms-DOS based thigs within the command prompt so could anyone help shine some light on this if it is of any relavance my main maps name is Ardania (I like Majesty SO SUE ME).

Thanks,

Better start with the default map set and add your own maps later on.

You need the windows server: http://www.theperlguru.com/crossfire/ and the client http://www.gazellevillage.com/download/ ... nstall.exe.

Put the maps in share/crossfire/ (I'm not sure if the name is same under windows). After that it should be reasonable easy to run the exe from DOS prompt. :P

I tried to download that server file but the exe (crossfire32.exe) and crossfire.1 are both corrupt... is there a different place I could download those files?

The server on the perlguru website is based on september code, meaning 1.4 (i think).

There's been some patches on the crossfire-devel mailing list for a native windows compilation using MS Visual Studio. But that has been tested under Windows 2000, maybe WinXP is slightly different in that respect...

Just my 2 cents of €

Did you try redownloading? I haven't heard anyone else saying that those files are corrupted..

Yes, I tried redownloading. It still doesn't work though.

You need to uncheck some option like 'smart cr/nl/lf conversion' (don't remember the exact title), it corrupts data files...

my own server, too?

Oh, and what the heck is a .pif?

the server running as you want it."
