Ooh, new idea for item, that could be quite a nice idea methinks.

Andreneline (as in speed)

should give a tempory bonus to speed and HP regeneration, and remove a Con point (or two). Note, remove from the natural value, so a Con potion is needed to recover it.

This gives an alchemical equivilent of the wand of wonder, a last gasp desperation measure to escape.

Maybe also have taking too many give a disease (Overdose) and have this slowly kill a character if they don't get medical assistance?

Note that the same sort of thing could be done for steroids (Str and dam, hurts regen, and Con)

The disease for an overdose would do just one damage every 5 turns. And put down the con until the cure was quaffed.

Well, I must add that we probably do not want all our con potions disappearing. Potion of life is fine. Though if you want to make it so it won't work until the effects of the items are over, well, that's sufficiently evil.

No, it means con is downed temporarily. life pots restore the stats as if they were depleted, and the cure halts all degredation.

Or perhaps no immediate drawback, have it give you a rush (+5 to all stats) for about 15-30 seconds, directly after which is a withdrawal (-1 to all stats, cure with life pot). Also allow it to drive stats past 30 if you OD big time, but every one that pushes past 30 gets an extra -2 to the stat. For example, I have 20 on all stats and I down 2. I'll have 18 when all's said and done. But if I down 3 instead, I have 16, because in each stat one potion drove that stat PAST 30, so one potion's withdrawal is doubled. Savvy?

no, more like rage. the stats are all boosted (say +5), then when it wears out, your stats drop back down lower than what they were, but slowly come up after a long period of time. i think.

Next you need to implement alcohol (Int-1)(Cha-1)(Wis+1)(Dex+1) and an ability to become alcoholic.

Why the wisdom bonus? I think this would be better: (Int-2)(Cha-2)(Str+1)(Dex+1)

surely the effects of alcohol should be

Str +1, Dex -1, Int -1, Con +1, Cha -1, inventory gains traffic cones....

Indeed, those stats are better, though I don't get the traffic cone joke... :?
