i found a strange ring of adamant. one of its stats are 'resist drain +200'
does this have any profits (except that i can wield a weapon that gives drain -100 and still have drain+100)
Same question applies to fire, cold and so on.

Was this on a public server? If so, which one?

AFAIK, the only profit will probably be in price if you choose to sell the ring to a shop.
See the FAQ for calculating partial resistances
http://crossfire.real-time.com/faq/faq.html#3.2.4.1
What you summarize won't work. Negative values are calculated last and seperately from all the other "bonuses" so in this case, this character would have a maximum resistance to drain of zero.

Yes, it was on a public server. Actually it was on MF
Like you know, there are rings titled 'strange ring' and they have resist drain.
You'll also know there is a (very) little change of finding a strange ring of Strife (for example) that is just like a ring of Strife, but with resist drain +100 and +4 IP
Now, if you happen to find a strange ring of Adamant, you have the bonus of a normal ring of Adamant AND the resist drain+100. Now, a ring of Adamant has resist drain +100 on its own, so, thats how my 'Strange Ring of Adamant' got its resist drain +200
Whenever i apply that ring, my resistance to draining rises to +200. And if i apply a sleek katana (resist drain -100) my draining resistance drops to 100.
So, maybe it _shouldn't_ work, but it actually works nice.

Not true, it may seem to appear nice and working, but look at us poor undead, our perceive self says resist holy word +0, when its actually -100. Just thought I'd point that out.

Good point. What does a perceive self spell show and the 'resistances command?
It could be a client display bug where it shows +100 when it really is 0. Something like this has happened in the past, but I don't remember the exact details.

both resistances and precieve self say: resist drain +100.
maybe i should test it in the arena, but i wont do so now (way to tired, nite

)

Why is it that if you resist drain +100 naturally,
weild a weapon with drain -100, and it doesn't change if you wear
a ring of res drain +100?

That's how the formula is intended to work..
Negative values are calculated last and seperately from all the other "bonuses."

I'm not sure the client was coded with >100 res items in mind... I'd say >100 res items are a bug in itself. AFAIK a needed one though, to make weight work. I can't think of a general solution to fix this. On one hand you need weight to work, on the other you don't want +100 res items to increase any further, and -100 res items to decrease any further.

More than +100 resist means nothing, but less than -100 has sense :
with -100 you take double damage, with -200 triple damage, and so on...
