Quest spellbooks mutate ?

Now I am not sure which section this should go in, it’s kinda a spoiler and a potential bug report really...
I have done Siegfield's quest several times now, first two times everything went well and the reward was what it should be (a pretty shiny book of shockwave)
If I try doing the quest again, the book I pickup seems to randomly mutate into some other book (icestorm, amour, snowstorm)
The mutation seems to occur on identifying the book in my inventory before it ever touches the ground. Mutation continues if the book if left alone for sometime on the guild grounds. Sometimes the books turn back into shockwave, at the moment I have 2 books of shockwave and 3 of snowstorm.
I am aware that mutation of spellbooks in apartments is common knowledge, but this is the first time I encounter mutations of quest spellbooks.

My Color Spray book has been IceStorm for the longest time.. It's also a quest book.. these books are like all others at their very basic state I guess, so they would mutate as everything else.. Any who.. To fix it.. take it to your apartment and quit.. log back in and it will be okay...

Just to make sure.. I think you mean safely log out and exit the game.
Not quit as in delete your character ('quit).

Well..
The time you assume a person won't follow the directions exactly, word for word..
You point it out and then some one has to follow-up with a quick rib.

Actually Leaf, either approach will solve your problem-at-hand.. Properly quitting in your apartment fixes the book, quitting all-together get's rid of your book, and therefore your problem as well.. so.. up to you to choose approach that works best for you in a given situation
Hey, out of curiosity, I wonder if I could sell one of my characters on Ebay for some money..
hehe..

Probably not until there is a way to change the login password.

Ok, I know this is an ancient post and all, but I was away all summer and you have not heard form me much
Anyway, getting back to the point :
Quest spellbooks still mutate, for instance earlier on today Wumpus has found his meteor swarm change into create bomb and comet becoming build lightning wall, which is not that much of a fair substitute.
However, Zortan's fix should work, either one of them actaully

The next question to track down..
Where these spell books new or ones that the player had sitting around in the ir apartment for a long time?
I seem to recall that the "fix" solved the problem for all spellbooks going forward but not for exising ones. Or, that was for something else.. ?

lemme see...
Wumpus signed up around end of august, the spellbooks are at most 2, maybe 2 and a half month old.
[s]'say [\s]last (two) weeks a few ms and a few comets were added to the collection.
oh, iirc Hanuk didnt always gave the ms he should. but i am not sure about that.
Valderan got down in the burial ground, defeated Igor and the dark angel, but he never came up ... with comet.
just my experiences
