Problem with bigmaps

I have trouble unpacking the packed bigmaps for the windows server. I use Windows 2000 and downloaded the maps from the belgum mirror.
Whenever I try to run the file I get the error message "The instruction at "0x10010003" referenced memory at "0x000005a5". THe memory could not be "read".
Is the bigmap file corrupted ? I have tried downloading it several times with the same result. Or am I doing something wrong ?

Try downloading from other server, even if it's further away..File may be corrupt, worth a shot!

Also try computing the MD5 of the downloaded file, to make sure it isn't corrupted.
Correct MD5 is:
25D547CFA7575934543571E8A9F90E54 crossfire-server-bigworld-maps-2004-01-09.exe
(if you need an md5 program for Windows, try
http://www.fourmilab.ch/md5/ )

I checked it out with Md5 and got the same result.
Obviously it is not corrupted ? Still i cannot get it to work.
Doed it work for you ?

If the MD5 computes all right, you got the same exe as me, which runs fine.
Do you have any anti-virus software running? Do you have free space on hard disk? Any special thing that could prevent the installer from not working?

No. I got no antivirus and several gigabytes free.
Could it be that it for some reason dislikes Win2k ?
I have never had this kind of problem with other packed files.
Can i download the bigmap from some other place ? Like the linux server files ? If so then how do i configure the winzip so it wont ruin it in the unpacking ?

I'm using W2K too, so that's not the OS itself
You have two options, then:
1) Grab official bigworld-maps.tar.gz from Sourceforge, version 1.5.0. In Winzip, you need to UNCHECK 'smart unix/windows new line conversion' (or maybe it's called 'smart lf/nl conversion', something like that), then you can extract.
2) Grab latest maps from CVS. They are more uptodate compared to 1.5.0. You need a CVS client, get either WinCVS (
http://www.wincvs.org) or TortoiseCVS (
http://www.tortoisecvs.org/).
The repository is anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/crossfire, pserver method & anonymous, and the module you'll want is maps-bigworld (hit 'enter' if asked for a password). Check CVS documentation if something doesn't work.

This actually sounds more like a RAM read problem with the PC - Warcraft III experiences a similar bug in which it actually crashe the game at random intervals
Just a thought.
