I really don't know what to think anymore...

I have been a devoted crossfire for many years now, i was one of the most well known, and highest level players on metalforge.real-time.com, and im sure many players would still remember my name...

Now, the thing is, i went away from crossfire for about a year, mainly because my linux went thermal, and there was no good windows client, but a few days ago i discoverred that there were now working clients for windows so started playing again. At first i was amazed at all the new changes, thinking they would be fun to play, originally i was shocked at big world (Until i found, with some help, my way to the dragon caves :P) or the fact that you now have to walk to lake country, (allthough i am still puzzled as to why you got rid of that galleon...) but in general i was pleased with the adventuring aspect of the game.

Being used to the good old fassion crossfire, i chose a Wraith of Devourers as my character, and all i can say is, i was stunned as to how difficult you made things for anyone starting from scratch, LET ALONE anyone playing devourers, currently i am level 15 prayer (thanks to a couple helpful players, because there is no way in hell i could have gotten to that level without any assistance [well maybe after a year of playing...]) and have finally gotten to a level, where i had hoped, things would become easier for me, since i have now acquired red death, finger of death, and cause many wounds (which is the only one of the prayers i have not been dissapointed in) and i decided to try these prayers on some hill giants, the first one i tried, was offcourse, red death, i sat there for 10 minutes waiting for 1 giant to die... After the annoyance i felt from the lack of power in red death, i decided to try finger of death, only to be greeted by a single projectile spell, which fails to hit anything (and i mean anything, i fired it at a goblin and missed) 50% of the time, and it uses so much grace that its not worthwhile using, since anything you can kill with it, you can kill MANY times over with cause many wounds...

There are other spells which are also nerfed beyond belief, Flaming Aura is one of these, this spell is pathetic unless you can cast it multiple times... Vitriol... No splash? WHY!?!? Rage is just like flaming aura... Cause Anthrax, this i was really dissapointed in, i tried this on about 20 different creatures, to have it succeed on nothing, it states in the guide, that it is meant to affect animals, why then could it not even hit a mouse?

And the bugs, ohh how i love the bugs, like the gates refusing to open for a hero of scorn, or the fact that firestay has a gap in the spell towards the northwest...

Now, there are ALOT more things which i could add to this, but i believe the post is getting a bit long, so im just gonna end it with a question, Were you all drunk when you thought of some of these changes? Because i know if i was in your positions, i would have to be seriously off my face to implement some of these things...
(As a side note, i have no real problem with the new skill layout, just the fact that some spells have been made virtually useless)

I took the liberty of adding a poll so people could vote on what they think.

Where's the poll option of, "I like to complain instead of providing an annalysis/report of potential spell bugs" ?

Do you really think that some of these new spell features are intentional? Nevermind, I see this is a rhetorical question.

One other thing, crossfire.metalforge.net runs the latest changes from CVS which may include new features and may also include bugs.

metalforge.real-time.com was running the most stable and pre-tested changes so comparing the two servers is like comparing apples to oranges (or in some regards oranges to grape fruits..)

The fact that Crossfire seems to be a lot harder now than it used to be might prove to be problematic when trying to attract new players. When I started some years ago my first impression was that Crossfire is really difficult; you had to learn a lot before being able to advance (compare to some nonfree mmorpgs which let you get started easily but get more difficult later on). And to get my friends interested of the game I had to set up a server with reduced experience loss etc.

Really the 20% loss isn't that bad, except you lose it in everything...

What I believe would be a lot better it to lose 20% in 3-4 of your highest lvl skills.

Ehh sorry

Ehh, sorry about that whole drunk thing above, it wasnt meant to be a direct insult on anyone, it was meant to just emphasize a point about some of the afore mentioned thigns being senseless, kinda came out wrong, sorry if it hurt your feelings leaf.

It's strange that you find it harder now, hoxu - I remember playing > a year ago, and I found it a lot more frustrating then. I wasn't able to reach lvl 4! Now I can get to about 6 or 7 in a few hours. I've even killed a few beholders and hill giants.
