Documenting skills!

I didn't believe it at first and attributed it to my own cluelessness, but there is *no* documentation of skills anyplace. The CF website has a list of spells, monsters, maps.... but no skills. If players don't know what they're getting for their 400-600 platinum they aren't going to use this feature much (and instead keep posting suggestions that, for all anybody knows, have already been implemented).

Yes, I have downloaded the server, the arch, and the maps. After some poking around I finally found the skill definition file in the arch, but even that doesn't present the full picture. It only matches up each skill with its "cauldron" but if I'm not mistaken, some skills can be applied outside workshops like Alchemy and (as I accidentally discovered) Jeweler. Speaking of Alchemy, I think the CF website might be wrong in the usage instructions-- you don't "cast alchemy" over a cauldron. That will cause your ingretients to become nuggets. Instead, you "use_skill alchemy" which will instead cause your ingredients to become slag which is at least a step in the right direction. :-)

I think that examining a skill-scroll should give you a hint of situations where the skill can be used, so you can make an informed decision as to whether to buy that skill or hold out for some other one. Otherwise, the only players who will buy skills will be rich ones who don't really care about or use most of the skills they collect-- they just want to have the "whole set".

Note: having to use 'cast alchemy is necessary in Crossfire v1.5

The website does not include the latest skill code changes for a couple of reasons..

They are still part of CVS and not official (as in v1.6)

Like you mention, they are not documented.

Sounds like new page for the Wiki, http://crossfire.freezope.org/

Ya, the wiki isn't getting much use. I had hoped that people would start putting in Lore and monster descriptions and stuff which could be eventually imported into the game. Descriptions of skills (and spell) could be added to either the skill mesg or Lore fields the same way as monster descriptions would be...

I did a little clean up on the Crossfire Wiki site to make it a bit better to use. I have been neglecting the site so I can't gripe about it not getting used - but it is usable and even kind of nice so let's use it. I am especially hopeful that interesting tidbits of lore can be collected this way and then exported into the game.

So if you think you know what a monster looks like or how it was created, or a good place to buy chain lube or where a nice hole little full of gold is, or have a little riddle that tells someone how to find a cave full of trolls then please share it with us on the Wiki of Lore.

If you on the other hand have a guide for playing Fireborn or some sure fire tips for DMs or even server admin how-to then consider writing a first draft on the Wiki of Fact.

I have a request re: the wiki here: http://www.metalforge.net/cfmb/viewtopic.php?t=158 (See second post)

It is almost impossible to contribute to it IME.
