Deathtraps for newbie players

Something that I have done once or twice on an experienced 'newbie' (old player with new char):
Put a rune of transferrence on a map as a high-level player and wait for the other one to step on it. However I suggest you stay a bit away or get high resistance/immunity to fire.

And then watch as the head of the newbie explodes, taking everything around with it in a huge fireball :twisted:

Please don't do this on a complete newbie though. CF is newbie-friendly and should stay like that.

I know this is a REALLY old topic :) but it's a hobby of mine to post on topics no one will look at anyway. Personally, I like to set runes of fire/frost/shocking/BLASTING [note: VERY deadly :twisted:] in the gatehouse, in a format which involves lots of moving diagonally to avoid, so that I'm the only person who knows how to dodge them, and also the only person who knows they're there... :P

Messages tend to scroll across my screen then- "You killed Fiindil with Rune of Blasting." "Fiindil was killed by Insomniac's Rune of Blasting." "You killed USA with rune of frost." "USA was killed by Insomniac's rune of frost." "You killed..." etc. etc. until all my runes are detonated, disarmed by someone strong, or out of the way where they won't be stepped on :twisted:

I usually get about an hour of jail time after that kind of thing :wink:

I see. Thanks for posting that. I'll be watching for you. Since you think this is so funny then maybe only an hour of jail is too little punishment. I'll discuss it with the other DMs. Have a nice day. =)

yeah but then again you always see USA was killed by *insert something here*

and as for me, well i have a tendency for suddenly appearing back in my apartment without using a rod of WOR :)

The one thing that you ignore, whilst indirectly killing newbies can be amusing, far moreso is to get them to kill themselves, ideally through their own greed.

Think high level rod of wonder left lying around in a convenient place, or heavily trapped chest waiting for someone to take and open it.

Works better if it isn't scorn square (not just becaus of the no magic, but also because then they shouldn't be taking it anyway).

</joking - probably>

Scorn square isn't a good place to put them IIRC, the traps don't work properly. Of course the /truely/ evil would choose somewhere like Beginners 1. But even I wouldn't stoop to that.
