GTKClient.exe Console window says:

As discussed on the CF-List and after further testing, this appears to be a firewall issue blocking port 13327 which is required for playing Crossfire.

Ways of testing for this:

traceroute <servername or ip>
or
tracert <servername or ip>

If the hops stop at your firewall, then you know.

See if the server in question is available:

telnet <servername> 13327

You should see a connection refused response instead of a connection failed.
