Fifty floors of dungeon... no final quest map

Post by SilverNexus »

So, I was doing the final Scorn Nobility quest (the one involving the Spectre that cursed the king) and going through the randomly-generated levels, until level 49 (presumably the one before the final map) had no staircase to go any further.

the map itself was /random/world_127_0054 (although that does say much, since it was randomly generated). The dungeon depth for the set of random maps was 50.

I even casted show invisible to see if it was just a trick, but still nothing showed up.

Here is what mapinfo tells me:
(null) (/random/world_127_0054) in Somewhere out in the Wilderness
players:1 difficulty:20 size:21x19 start:1x1 timeout 0
xsize 23
ysize 19
wallstyle dungeon
floorstyle lightdirt
monsterstyle undead_quest
decorstyle creepy
exitstyle sstair
difficulty_increase 0.000000
dungeon_level 49
dungeon_depth 50
orientation 1
origin_x 1
origin_y 1
random_seed 1351174930
It frustrating to find a dead end when the quest information said I was in the right place.

The staircase down to the next level was likely inaccessible because it blocked by wall sections. Searching with xray enabled or with DM access could confirm this.

This is very rare, but can happen.

I did enter DM mode. I still couldn't find the staircase.

The only place it could have been was under a wall, as that was the only place I didn't check completely.

EDIT:

As I side thought, can the random_seed value be used to recreate a random map? If so, maybe you could recreate it and see if I was merely not noticing the staircase (which seems highly unlikely, but is still possible) or if the staircase was being stealthy or even nonexistent.

So, I went back as the DM, thinking it would be a one-time occurence. I reach level 49, and...
No staircase down, again.

I am going to post this as a bug on the sourceforge tracker, since I doubt that the same problem occuring on the same level random map and no other levels is not a fluke.

By the way, mapinfo gives me this:
(null) (/random/world_127_0048) in Somewhere out in the Wilderness
players:1 difficulty:20 size:23x19 start:21x1 timeout 0
xsize 25
ysize 21
wallstyle dungeon
floorstyle lightdirt
monsterstyle undead_quest
decorstyle creepy
exitstyle sstair
difficulty_increase 0.000000
dungeon_level 49
dungeon_depth 50
orientation 1
origin_x 4
origin_y 3
random_seed 1351306515

This random map set has indeed no final map (someone may want to add one, of course :)).

But for the quest, you should have found what you needed starting from level 30 or 40 (you need a weapon dropped by a Lord Spectre).

Ah...
So I just hadn't gone far enough before I just DM-hopped the last fifteen or so levels to reach the bottom.
