I was playing on my character Mandor roughly 10 minutes before the time of this post when the game froze and I was unable to reconnect. I was wondering if the server went down or the problem is on my end. Thanks.

It was a Crossfire server problem.

I killed and then restarted the Crossfire service to restore access to the game.

Server down again ? Several hours ago (10-14) the graphic animations stopped in my client. Was in the Newbee-Tower(Brewery-Tower) and just upgraded my praying skill to cast cause medium wounds . The server listing at http://crossfire.real-time.com/metaserver/ did not mention the metalforge server anymore. Anyway, it seems that nothing really weird happened to my sour gained experience points and i did wake up again in my last saved appartment's bed :D .

This would be my first crash with this server . I am curious if the metal forge server uses the crossloop script to automatically gather dumps and restart it . There is a

Code: Select all

sleep 50
in it, which would mean wait 50 seconds and the server would be tried to be brought up again. Also, how many $logcount does it have now .. :)

Btw, i was able to crash my server-1.10.0 with the meflin.glade configuration file that comes with newer clients while resizing the GUI . un-deux.glade was just freezing the client while resizing :) . The other *.glade files seem to work ok for me . ( I am able to use the newer clients with the older servers, but the inventory and look tree/tables widgets don't show anything - inventory command worked for me as a text-mode workaround )

No, the server was not down or offline.

Yes, the metalforge server uses crossloop script. Which works very well (perfectly) if the server does crash. However, if the server gets "stuck" or hung up it won't restart the crossfire game server/service.

Server 1.10.0 is very old release and unless the issue can be replicated on a 1.70.0 server - the issue will not be addressed or investigated.

Sea cable in the britsh-french Channel maybe cut by trawl

I recently had access to TV where it was shown a report in repairing sea cables in the Channel/North Sea in Europe. Sea cables are used for they are cheaper than space orbiting satellites . Fisher boats tend to damage these cables quite frequently with their trawling nets once a while . If that occurs, a switch to a spare cable is done manually in a controlling building of the telecommunication company that maintains the link to the shore . Such might explain a disconnecting behavior from the client side . 8)
