When I ventured into Hell for the first time in a while, my server crashed around level 4... when I restarted it and tried to connect, it asked me to repeat my password... as per new character generation. I can see that the player file still exists, but it's not at all clear what do do to reset its state so as to recover my character.

This is the first time this has happened (probably the first time I've had the server crash!). I'm on Ubuntu, my versions are their repository packages for both client (GTK client) and server.

Help!

My other character, which was not logged in at the crash, is *also* "gone", but I was able to create a new character which has persisted so far...

If the player file still exists, it should not ask you to make a new character. Unless the player file is completely empty. If the password was somehow lost, it should state wrong password or the like.

So hard to say what the problem is.

The player files still have their contents, glancing through them I couldn't see anything obviously wrong.
