Can I learn alchemy under the Alchemy Shop?

In Scorn, underneath the Alchemy shop, there is an altar offering access to an "alchemy classroom". Does this mean that if I go in, I will be able to pick up the alchemy skill? I can see access to a cauldron, but I already have a cauldron in my fancy apartment at the keyed Apartment Building, so I don't want to plonk down 2000 plat and then find I've wasted it! (Perhaps the alchemist's "help" messages should be more detailed?)

As i recall, the answer is NO. You need alchemy scroll, good place to find one is in this town in the south - there's a shop where you always find a few skillscrolls.

Ironically...

There's currently an alchemistry scroll in Scorn's Alchemical Shop... for slightly over 2100p... I've already blown one found scroll, but I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet. It'll wipe out most of my current cash (I'm only level 9) but I've built up a stock of gems and such. Also, my literacy is a lot better, and my stats have improved some since the last time.

Yee-hah!

And... YES! Time to start cooking down my elementals into their philosophical versions!

Got cocky and baked some slag, and got swarmed by High Angels! Unfortunately, I was using a cauldron in my apartment, so every time I respawned in my bed, I got insta-killed!

The loop completely jammed my client, and I probably had at least 10,000 gravestones in several stacks before I restarted the server.... (I wonder what the big guys multiplayer servers do when this happens?)

The good news is, my character had been blasted down to all-one stats, but he was still level 8 and had most of his skills. Thankfully, the character had already got religion, and had gotten a couple of Resir's supreme potions of life decursed -- only a few squares away, thankfully, as his Speed was down to 0.01! (down...wait...down...wait...etc.) So this was actually kinda survivable stupidity. Didn't even break the cauldron.

No.

The map is designed so that a player can teach/demo other players how to use alchemy, with minimal risk to others if something goes wrong. That is why each player works inside their own "lab."

Bad idea. Don't use alchemy in your apartment.

OK, not I'm getting a bit annoyed....

Leaf: bad idea. Don't use alchemy in your apartment.

This time, I've been sticking with the formulae, and specifically to the diff-5 ones. First, I got byakhee in my apartment, but I'd already applied the bed in my *other* apartment.

So, I got byakhee! Naturally, I respawned safely, and most of them came out of the apartment into the lobby. After spending some time beating on them and establishing that they really were invulnerable, I killed the landlord (to make the lobby reset) and went to sleep.

Unfortunately, one of them is still in my old apartment, and I can't seem to get it out! It doesn't want to follow me out, just hangs back and shoots fear at me!

So I got a day pass at the alchemists shop, and got some other f-ed-up supermonsters that now have me shut out of that room!

1) Maybe have some milder versions of the "pours forth monsters?"

2) The shop supplies keys, but there seems to be only one formula that uses them. ???

As a rule of thumb, the more types of ingredients the harder the recipe is when doing alchemy. When you have a low level in alchemy and attempt to make things that are far higher than you should be able to make you are almost ALWAYS going to get something horrible to happen. Try starting with recipes that have only one type of material and gradually move up the list from there.
