A lot of people seem confused about where they can find a client for Crossfire running under Windows.
Here is the link:
http://crossfire.real-time.com/clients/win32_gtk.html
If you get garbled images with it, deactivate the 'cache images' feature (Configure/Map & Images).

Or, this page has a direct link to the download site for the Windows Client
http://www.metalforge.net/clients/index.html
Yes, I know the version information is out of date..

Another solution for garbled images is: make a batch script to trash the .crossfire/crossfire-images subdir at each client start.
That fixes the problem for me, but forces downloading images many times (dragon player for instance)
Garbled images

If you get garbled images, a good idea is to download the complete image set package to reduce bandwidth consumption.
You can find this package for the 1.5 version of the client on:

I just uploaded a newer version of gtk client for win32.
You can find it at:
www.geocities.com/win_crossfire/win32-c ... 03.gtk.zip
MD5: 2AEB2381DB38C0EC73D5DCD00A869FDB
Unzip & run, no installer.
It may miss some DLLs. If it complains, tell me & i'll upload'em too.
Known issues:
* keys file is .crossfire/keys. You can copy your 'old' files on it, it'll work, but one key bindings for all your players (will be fixed someday)
* image cache hopefully works
* you'll see an error message when connecting, saying unable to find match for faceset. You can ignore it
This is still a beta version, use it at your own risk!
And thanks Somebdy / Philip for the porting (i grabbed from his site
http://www.theperlguru.com/crossfire/ and just fixed some bugs, he did most of the work)

Finally manager to take the time to make a decent GTK client installer.
You can find it at
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfil ... _id=196167
I called it 1.6.0, but it's slightly more

(sources are after 1.6.0 official release)
Enjoy, and report any bug.
Remember: you MUST installer GTK (yes, check that readme file)

Indeed....
Could you tell us in which module the error occurred? Which OS are you using? Any message appearing on the console window? Did you read the readme file & install GTK?

I have problems, too.
- I'm using WinNt without administrative rights.
- Installed Crossfire using crossfire-client-windows-1.6.0.exe from sourceforge.
- Copied all GTK-Dlls into the crossfire-folder.
Now i'm getting:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(GTKClient.exe:263): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Can not open pixbuf loader module file 'C:\TEMP\Lomaxx\Crossfire\etc\gtk-2.0\gdk-pixbuf.loaders': No such file or directory
(GTKClient.exe:263): GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Error loading XPM image loader: Image type 'xpm' is not supported
(GTKClient.exe:263): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkpixmap.c: line 103 (gtk_pixmap_new): assertion `val != NULL' failed
(GTKClient.exe:263): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkbox.c: line 372 (gtk_box_pack_start): assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (child)' failed
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After reading these error-messages, i checked the Crossfire-folder and noticed, that there isn't any etc-folder (or any other folder beside '.crossfire') in it. Do i need to install anything beside the client?
I sincerely hope this question isn't too dumb,
