new skill: spell absorbtion

cool idea, a passive skill that would allow you to absorb spells cast at you for minor hp or mp regen, or even absorb mp from cone spells. would probably have to be a skill or something that you could turn on or off. every time you succesfully absorb a spell you get back part of the mp or hp or both. the downside is if it fails, your taking the full damage fo the spell, no armour or resists, and then multiplied. so dont ... up catching cause youll probably die. mostly effective for catching fireballs or frostbolts being tossed at you, might be able to absorb from floors like in the demon TC, and cone spells. but you wouldnt be able to attack while you were doing this to keep it from being to powerful.

Interesting... I like it, but I see it as difficult to impliment.
(also, "wouldnt be able to attack" should definitally include that one wouldn't be able to cast spells, including from scrolls or rods.)

yea, have the skill as an attack skill. although they would still be able to cast spells that way. maybe have it a passive skill like spellcasting, so they can attack, but have using multiple skills detract from its chance to suceed. probably have to put a script in there.

A script? You can't use scripts for skills. It's a modification to the core server code that's needed.

well, I think you probably /could/ do it with minimal server code modification, basically you would make each attack, instead of dealing damage directly, create an attack object, and hook a script in to that.
Of course, just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should.

Hmm, make it possible to make your head "explode" if you are not careful. I can see people getting newbies to use this skill

Heh, I find head explosions rather fun

Just so long as there arn't 30 happening at once... in which case they can become rather deadly to even high level players if they are not fire-immune...
Yes... my favorite part of guild mana crystals, is the head explosions... just so long as one doesn't open the gate to the items when the explosion is in progress

I think the absorbtion spell should absorb monsters into the charector, gaining the monsters abilities
Imagine me absorbing the chaos lords attacktypes

That would also be neat, but I think it would be difficult to make sure there are no 'exploits' with.
I prefer the origional idea, but perhaps something could be done like making it absorb a monster's abilities if you use it when the monster is right beside you the in the direction you cast, but if there is no monster directly beside your casting direction, it casts in the spell absorbtion mode.

Perhaps make the spell temperary?
That would solve a few problems.
I'd hate to combat a player who absorbed ghwoltite, evil masters, chaos lords, and major djinns, and kept the abilities.
