Ancient Pupland help!

Okay - I've worked my way through all the puzzles in pupland, passed Kurtes (frankly quite sadistic!) three challenges, and I'm now exploring ancient pupland. I've found the necromantic words, found out Cordishs secret and survived his little trap and made my way back upstairs - but for the life of me I cannot work out how to get the key off him! Help, anyone? (Hints prefered, rather than a complete walk through
)

ugh, i cant get past the beholder... he keeps calling me ugly

There is an other way than the doors. It was used by thieves to break into the castle. And it is still open.

Thanks, yes, I know about that (took me forever to get past those blasted rock crushers though!)
But generally, in pupland, there's more than one way to do these things - and it's just bugging me that I can't find a way past Cordish... Maybe there actually isn't??
