4 bugs (two related, two not) and a question

OK, the first two problems I have are with the Imperial Post. To start, whenever I talk to the NPC on the left, something like this happens (see snippet below):
Sami-Fire: Hello?
Colette:
As you can see, the NPC's name appears like something is going to be said, but the space afterward is blank. The second Imperial Post glitch is with the "Talking Sign". It says to say help if you don't know what to say, but if you do so, nothing happens.
The third glitch (unrelated to the others) involves the praying skill. I use prayer magic and the regular praying skill (praying over an altar). My praying experience never increases. This has been going on for a while.
I noticed a fourth glitch. In the newbie map (the area north of the start), go to the area that teaches you how to find and disarm traps. Towards the bottom of the black marble (not the horizontal portion, the vertical portion), there is a square (trap) that sometimes flashes red. When this trap is detonated, the game tends to crash.

Finally, my question: What is the evocation skill and how do you earn experience in it? My guess is to use evoker magic, but is it just evoker magic that ups that skill?

P.S. My character's class is Devotee and the server I play on is crossfire.netarbeiter.com.

I think these are server related problems, it's not happening at metalforge.
Maybe the server is not updated?

If you just "pray" you will never gain experience. You have to use the prayer like spells to kill monsters and then get experience from the kills. Learn the prayers from a prayerbook. And feel free to ask any other problem about how to use this.

I know what trap that is, but I havent noticed a crash when it's detonated, I will try. BTW, what client do you use and under what OS?

Evocation, the same as praying, pyromancy, and others is a magical skill, it will allow you to learn spells of that specific skill and use them against monsters to gain xp on it.
To use it, learn the spell, ready the spell 'cast <spellname>', and fire the spell against monsters by pressing shift+arrow_in_the_right_direction.

Good Luck :)

OK, thanks, but I DO use the prayer spells, and my prayer exp doesn't change. What's up with that?

Another question... you can't use any skills that don't appear when you type skills into the input area, right?

My OS is Windows XP.

How do I find out what client I use?

(Please excuse major newbie-ness)

Killing monsters with a prayer and your praying xp is still not changing resembles to me the time there were duplicated skills and the xp would only go to one of them while the other was shown in the screen.
You can check it out in the 'skills' command output by yourself, if they are duplicated then find a DM to erase one of them. In the meantime, and if this was the problem, try logging out and in again and try again. Usually the skills will be sorted backwards and the xp will show up again. Otherwise, I don't nkow.

And you are right, you need to "know" the skill in order to use it (or have an item that gives
you it's "knowledge") then it will be shown in the 'skills' command.

To find out what client you are using try the help menu, option "about".

The skill isn't duplicated, but I think I figured out the problem- I only have one prayer spell (a healing spell). I think you have to use an offensive prayer spell in order to gain prayer exp... is that it?

Yes, that is correct. You need to kill monsters with a prayer spell in order to get experience in the praying/prayer skill.

Holy word can be effective against undead and enemies of your chosen god.

Turn undead is effective against undead. Cause light wounds works on nearly all monsters. Either of these spells might not be available to you, it depends on which cult/god you have chosen to follow.

My character worships Valriel, so I can't use the wounding spellpath. Holy word seems a lot better now because I can just kill weak undead instead of risking getting destroyed by demons (those things are really powerful... I think).

P.S. What are some examples of undeads?

EDIT: Can a devotee use the pyromancy skill?

Zombies, Skeletons, Ghosts to name a few...

Yes. You'll need a talisman of Pyromancy or successfully learn the skill from a skill scroll of Pyromancy.

BAD new glitch

I just discovered that I can't bind commands anymore. When I type "bind", it comes up with this wonky error:
Usage: bind [-nfre] {<commandline>/commandkey/firekey{1/2}/runkey{1/2}/completekey/nextkey/prevkey}
When this crops up, I can't bind things. I checked on THREE servers. This was after I deleted my Devotee character. What's going on here?

That's not an error, but a complete(?) listing of all the options you can use when you want to bind a key to an action or event.

'help bind
Help about 'bind'
Syntax:
bind [-nfreg] <command>
Flags (default -nrf):
n - used in normal-mode
f - used in fire-mode
r - used in run-mode
e - leave command in line edit
g - global key (not recommended)

Multiple commands can be bound to the same key be seperating them with semicolons.

Special bind's:
bind commandkey - sets commandkey
bind firekey1 - sets first firekey
bind firekey2 - sets second firekey
bind runkey1 - sets first runkey
bind runkey2 - sets second runkey

Examples:
bind -f cast paralyzed (F3)
will typically mean that Shift-F3
is used to select that spell (Shift
being the fire key)

bind use_skill sense curse;
use_skill sense magic (S)
will bind those two commands to the S key.
FWIW, a common binding that I have is binding the praying skill to the "p" key

First, type:
'bind use_skill praying;use_skill praying;use_skill praying

Then, I hit the p key
