Thing is, if one does that then it requires keeping up with security annoucements and patching them. By comparison, I run slackware, and when there is a security announcement I decide whether I want to use the provided package, or build my own one.

I save a lot of time not reading bugtraq that way.

/me conveniently ignores his current kernel version - 2.4.23.....
