But no one was actually connecting to Ben's Noodle, so it wouldn't matter if there were 3-6 entries, it is when there are 90 and the clients start dying as a result...

Yeah, but you never want to have more than one dead server/ip at once. You may be able to get around it, but it still fills up the window sometimes, and server can crash within 5 mins if there is an incorrectly compiled build that dies when an action happens...

I kept thinking the servers were supposed to be as decentralized as possible. Whoever gets picked to judge whether a server is approved isn't exactly going to have an easy time. I mean, what would you consider approved (question to all)? There's probably a legitimate server somewhere that may not make the cut.

easy:
if (server_name!=bensnoodle){approve}

seriously though, you measure...

1. it has a recent-ish version of the server running (within the last 2 years)
2. it has the ability for any person to create a new character
3. it has some point of contact with responsibility for the server (ie it has the dm_mail setting on)
4. it has availability greater than 12 out of every 24 hours over the course of a week.

Ben's Noodle fails on all of these, bar maybe #1.

Yes, but the assumptions that are made are:
1. the server is unmaintained
2. everyone who plays on the server knows about it anyway.
3. New players don't want to play there, but somewhere where there is new shiney stuff

Don't delist them completely.
Also, when sorted, it's the end of the list people see most, actually.

Sort the list with the top 10 most played on servers?
