What we should do is add in some large patches of grass and desert in appropriate areas and maybe a few large swamps near rivers, since there are mostly 1-tile swamps now.

The mountains should be concentrated as a few chains around Brest and just west of Navar. Basically one eastern Mountain range and one western range. There can be a few stray hills and mountains in the main continent, but it would be mostly flat.

Also, the volcano on the continent could be part of the Brest mountain range, which could then extend east of Euthville and east of Santo Dominion until it hits ocean. (Lorak would be in this mountain range if we included the patch on cf.mf.net)
If you look this is being done - the desert south west of Navar for example, the ring mountains, the great forest, the dark Mire. All these things are being developed. Remember someone has to actually make these maps... I think that any plan proposed does not take the size of the maps in to account - there are 900 50x50 world maps now - entire kingdoms can be put in here - think of how much action is packed into a single area like Scorn (close to 50x50) lets not just remake the old maps only with greater distances between them. There is room for 50 mountian chains, many great forests - lots of cities.

Another things - having multiple starting locations will also mitigate this somewhat. The great roads are also useful for connecting up the existing maps - in the future more roads will be made as area get developed. If development can be concentrated to grow outward from a few key points (Scorn, Navar, the existing city/states and areas along the roads) there would be less complaints of pointless wandering. The problem is the same as before - everyone always wants to carve out their own city/area (it's human nature I guess) when what is best for the game (and players) is to continue developing the existing areas in a coherent way...

Me, I hope it takes many years to develop the bigworld and make it into a high quality and complex place to explore.
