Many thanks to tchize for helping solve this trouble.
I guess I'll make a nice readme file with all those questions (here & in other threads), and put that somewhere in the installer....

Strange the gtk installer did not put the dlls in the windows directory, all windows libraries does that!!
perhaps a bug report to the make of windows gtk2 libraries should be a good thing. Or ask how they did with gimp to find the libraries.

Well, imo that installer is 'clean', and puts its own DLLs in a separate directory to avoid polluting Windows/system32.
But the drawback is to have to add the lib path to $PATH

This forum is here to report bugs, so no, we aren't tired of you
Now your trouble, well.... Frankly I don't know. Maybe GTK doesn't work with W95. Maybe you are still missing something. Maybe it's totally unrelated.
What is your configuration? The client probably uses some memory, maybe you're short on that.... or any random reason...

From what you write, i think the client works correctly on those 56 computers, he? The 1.6.0, i hope

That makes me think more and more of a specific win95 (or 98 ) issue, rather than a general one.
