Yes, the README is kind of sketchy.
Someday it'll be improved :)

But at any rate SourceForge's page lets you find all files.

bleh, I can't find any of the files(crossfire.exe & installwin32.bat) that it states, unless they come with the CVS thing which I'm even more confused about... please help me.

Did you grab the zip file from geocities?
Did you get CVS (or tar.gz) files?

crossfire.exe is part of the zip file on geocities. installwin32.bat is part of CVS or tarball.

Sorry, install isn't really practical right now ^.^;;;

You need a cvs client to use CVS well. FOr windows there is tortiseCVS or winCVS available. Otherwise you should look for a tarball or a zip package with the files. Copying all the files from the CVS online browser would be crazy unless you are a scripting junkie looking for some sick fun.
If you decide to read any actual CVS documentation (good idea) there is one on the crossfire site and one on sourceforge to get you started. Otherwise wait for a packaged version you can download and install. (If you send RYO 500$* he might even mail you a CD :))

*Note: crossfire is a GPL software but I think 500$ would cover basic shipping and media costs.
