The signs when you walk into scorn are now invisable? The ones that tell newies how to play? Or the manuals in City Hall?

So much for not blindly enforcing your opinion on everyone...mrbrklyn wrote:The policy perpetrates this crime. And it does nothing to prevent it. If your irritated by the normal behavior of common players, it is up to YOU to make a change.
If your a dragon in Navar and don't want to listen to newbies in scorn, that is YOUR problem.
That is what listen is for.

See the world is in different colors. The rules try to allow full enjoyment of the game without hindering if for the rest. What you are proposing is a mayhem which would be an absolute WRONG in your own universe.
There seem to be a problem/misunderstanding of what currently existing rules allow/encourage.
You want off topic chatter? Go 'chat, you want "anythong goes conversations" 'party join CompleteAnarchy... You want all that in the shout ? 'quit is the way to go.

AFAIK this is the only way to get in trouble with DMs, and you'd have to be real good at it too. >>
If I'm having a problem with DMs bet it is a problem with the rules or the DM...

I can see the world in ALL its colors.... thank you.

Um NO. Your wrong. This mayhem is called "playing the game". the rule is an artificial restraint of speach without ANY benifit. The game was played without a chat channel for half a decade. This "rule" is like 10 minutes old and creating mayheim.
<< There seem to be a problem/misunderstanding of what currently existing rules allow/encourage.>>
the rule sucks. It has created an abuse on the players.

Looks like, also they must be immaterial sinse grepping all maps for 'shout' and some filtering only gets you this:mrbrklyn wrote:<<Better ask mrbrklyn this one :>>

So you are ready for the world
of crossfire? You will need to use
the knowledge you learned
in the tutorials to go outside.
There is no way back. You
can find beds to reality at Inns.
One more thing:
Some places will be inaccessible
until you reach level 3. In the
beginning, you won't be able to
use magic or wisdom. When you
are level 5 you can go to the city
hall to get a teleporter for the
famous city of Scorn.
Never mind speaking with other
players. The commands shout, say
and tell are very useful.
And don't forget the most useful
command:
help
endmsg

I personally don't think there's a problem with the new chat system, except that I think that the default listen level should be such that one hears chat messages by default. And perhaps making the chat color a more readable color would be nice. but overall I think the current seperation of chat and shout is quite nice.
Feature words are 'newbie', 'veteran' I would suspect none know of 'chat or the fact that ruels DO get updated with appropriate guidelines.mrbrklyn wrote:This rule has resulted in a beligerent and abussive behavior by the DMs on Metalforge, as a fact. Every darn newbie and nearly every vertern player has been twitched by the DMs over this rule.
Least you could do to help out is be coherent, but if that's not what you want, better start saying so.mrbrklyn wrote: << So much for not blindly enforcing your opinion on everyone...>>

Let's start from saying that the game itself is an artificial abstruction. So your views on what's artificial or not do not really hold. Game is a bunch of rules put together, those rules govern the ingame world, socialising being part of it too.mrbrklyn wrote: <<The rules try to allow full enjoyment of the game without hindering if for the rest. Coming back to my point about an information gap: chat channel is pretty much shout with offtopic chatter, it seems highly unlickely that it is easier to type 'shout than 'chat too, or do you think otherwise?
*sniff* Someone is being abused...mrbrklyn wrote: << There seem to be a problem/misunderstanding of what currently existing rules allow/encourage.>>

Maybe we should all hear about it? or would that not make the poor victim look good...
Quite possible it is also a bit to do with what you consider 'fair or not'. Conflicting opinions is a neverending problem and you can't make everyone happy, what you can do is either target particular audience which would be happy or simply try and compromise. I'm personally all in for finding a better solution.mrbrklyn wrote:<<Does this mean you've been breaking the rules?AFAIK this is the only way to get in trouble with DMs, and you'd have to be real good at it too. >>

From what I know most of DMs are nice people and will explain what/why happens. We all were there at different times as we started playing or came back after a long time to find the world not quite the same as before.
This would be fine. But frankly, there is no NEED for a system channel.Rednaxela wrote:I personally don't think there's a problem with the new chat system, except that I think that the default listen level should be such that one hears chat messages by default. I don't need the DMs to talk to me ***at all**. I expect them to be like the cops, more or less invissible on the street unless one of the bad guys break into your car.
When the DMs are busy policing everyone on the board, there is a problem
