how are these supposed to work exactly?
We used to be able to apply them to gain bonuses from them (Talismans) now they auto apply - and if I try to apply it manually it tells I don't know what to do?
I'm playing a Fireborn - a Magic creature - and I can only start out knowing ONE magic skill??? this seems a bit excessive... I mean talk about Nerfing the one real "skill" a FB has: Magic use.
The other thing is: If I don't have say, the Sorcery Skill and I find a Talisman of Sorcery - I am still unable to learn any Socery spells. message I get is that I don't know <skill>
Is this part of the new code for the Skillsets? I mean ARG!/Frustrating! - I even tried recreating as different classes (I tried Monk / Sorcerer / Evoker / Wizard) each seems to only start knowing ONE spell skillset.
Are we really going to have to learn new spell group skills by hunting out that specific skill scroll?

Re: Talismans on the new server
When a talisman is worn or in a players inventory, it allows them to learn and cast wizardry based spells.RovinRogue wrote: how are these supposed to work exactly?

To summarize, if you _DON'T_ wish to use a particular talisman (or holy symbol) when casting spells do not have it readily available in your inventory (leave it in your apartment, place it in a container, etc.)
Do you already have a talisman or other item in use when you do this?RovinRogue wrote:

Translation: You stumped me on this one..
Please clarify your viewpoint with this statement. You are saying that one is excessive, as in too much??RovinRogue wrote:

Did you have another talisman in your inventory at this time, or just the Talisman of Sorcery?RovinRogue wrote:

See my earlier response and the web page link concerning this.
AFAIK, that is the case for now. Chracters start with one spell skillset.RovinRogue wrote:

For the time being, yes.RovinRogue wrote:

Emphasizing the LEARN part which answers another question you did. (see below)leaf wrote:When a talisman is worn or in a players inventory, it allows them to learn and cast wizardry based spells.RovinRogue wrote: how are these supposed to work exactly?
You still can do it, just carry the one you want for the specific skill to be applied when you ready some spell of that kind and it will be applied with all it's plusses.RovinRogue wrote:

But i have to make a note on this cause aparently there is a bug which doesnt apply the talisman/holy symbol if you already have the skill learned by scroll. So if you want to use lets say a talisman of the unified mind, you would want to not learn the skill by using the scroll at least until this bug is fixed.
I dont think they are too much nor too low, you can perfectly level up with the skills you begin and even when fireborns are magical creatures that doesnt mean they have to know all the kinds of magic able from the beginning. Remember you make your char, if it started knowing all he can, what would be left to do after that? There are some things that can be fixed or better sorted, but i dont agree changing the amount of skills chars born with. I tried many of them and unitl now, i had fun making them all level up. Nobody says it's easy, but it was fun.leaf wrote:Please clarify your viewpoint with this statement. You are saying that one is excessive, as in too much??RovinRogue wrote:

are you sure you have the talisman in your inventory?leaf wrote:Did you have another talisman in your inventory at this time, or just the Talisman of Sorcery?RovinRogue wrote:

are you trying to learn a level 1 spell? if so that could be some new bug, havent seen that happen to me yet.
Remember you cant learn a spell of higher level than the one you already have in the specific skill the spell belongs to.
Having other talismans in my inventory didnt affect it either, i usually carry a talisman of each skill i use and they autoapply in the right moment just by using my bindings to cast/invoke the choosen spell.
Not really. Just get the talismans you need, that should be enough... i dont think they are so expensive and they appear very often in most magic shops.leaf wrote:For the time being, yes.RovinRogue wrote:

Actually neither of you misunderstood me. I was not being very clear.
1. As far as learning spells goes: I was trying to learn a LVL 1 Sorcery spell - at the time I ONLY had a Talisman of sorcery (found by fluke) in my INV. It would NOT auto_apply when I tried to learn the spell. Simply returned the message that I had no knowledge of Sorcery.
2. Other Talismans - say of Empowerment (Magic+2) would not allow me to apply them - and they would NOT auto_apply when casting spells. As that would be a generic type of Talisman it should apply when casting ANY spell right? (of course discounting this if the spell being cast Required another Talisman...)
Also for say, a Talisman of Empowerment (Magic+2) the best bonus given by stuch a Talisman is that it increases your Mana regen. If it will not apply on its own, and if it would only apply when casting spells(assuming this worked
) then the only time you would gain the bonus is WHILE casting spells... making the Talisman kind of useless as it would only regen during the casting and casting delay of the spell.
I have not tested this with Holy Symbols yet as my praying skill seems to work fine

I'd like to take a look at that misterious talisman, what char do you play in this server?
BTW, about the bug i mentioned above, it's aparently just fixed in CVS so hopefully will be upgraded in this server soon and you will always be abble to apply those items to gain their bonuses beeing a solution to what you just said.

Actually, when trying to learn spells, it would be best, even when you don't know the spell yet, to "bind cast <spell>" and ready the spell so that the talisman would apply itself, even though you didn't know the spell. I'm not sure that would work, but it's worth a try...1. Not true. The Talisman remains applied even after using the spell, until you ready another skill [weapons, other types of magic, etc.]. So, if you want to use a spell of the same path afterwards, you would still keep the bonus... though I never personally noticed a bonus... and changing spell paths would result in keeping bonus anyway, as you would apply and keep applied a different talisman.making the Talisman kind of useless as it would only regen during the casting and casting delay of the spell.
