Running Windows Crossfire Client off USB drive in Wine

Post by SilverNexus »

Although it may not be the most logical combination, particularly because there is a Linux version of the client (which I normally use), I found some weird occurrences when running the Windows client off a USB drive under Wine.
  • 1. First, the images that are not the first tile only display every other line of the image with an opaque background instead of transparent, making everything look ghostly and color-coded (not everything had the same background color).
    2. Any configuration settings changed were forgotten after the client was closed (this likely has to do with running off the USB drive)
In case you were wondering why I even thought of trying this was because I wanted to run the client off my USB drive, so I could run it on a public computer without installing anything. Since my computer does not have native Windows, I tested it under Wine.

This probably is not a big deal, but I thought I'd make it known that it does act weird under such obscure circumstances.

EDIT: Whatever the case is, it is Wine specific (except maybe the configuration not staying - its probably looking for a non-existent file (on the C:\ drive, rather than the USB drive)). I tried it on a native Windows machine and it worked fine running off the USB drive. I just couldn't bind keys because it wanted a non-existent file on the C:\ drive.
That SilverNexus guy? You needn't worry about him.
