I seem to have lost my character on metalforge ('fargris') - I can time it rather precisely to yesterday (5 February 2011 ~10:00 GMT) because I was reinstalling my system. One of the first things I did was build the client and log on; after seeing my character was where it was supposed to be, I logged out, copied my keydindings from backup and logged on again, but was this time met with an a "repeat password" etc - I didn't complete the setup, but could somebody in charge please tell me what is going on here? Is it a temporary lapse, have you lost all backups, have you decided to reset the server completely and throw out people's characters?
If so, would it be possible for you to send me what dataset constitutes my character - stats and whatever - along with instructions on how to patch it into a server that I will set up at home? I would hate to lose - again - what amounts to many hours of work: I have tried build up a character with a balanced set of skills, and spent many hours on summoning and praying in particular.
What suddenly happened to my character?

You did not log out. You used the quit command, which deletes your character.fargris wrote:I seem to have lost my character on metalforge ('fargris') - I can time it rather precisely to yesterday (5 February 2011 ~10:00 GMT) because I was reinstalling my system. "fargris quits the game."
No. Nothing like that has happened.fargris wrote:Is it a temporary lapse, have you lost all backups, have you decided to reset the server completely and throw out people's characters?

Character was restored from the Feb-4th backup.fargris wrote:My character (fargris) on metalforge seems to have disappeared suddenly, this Saturday morning (GMT) - do you have a backup? And could you restore it for me?
The backup on Feb-5th took place *AFTER* the player file was lost, so that is why I used the one from the 4th.

Great stuff! Thanks a lot.
You say I quit? I am pretty sure I didn't - could this have happened because of an error or something? I can't completely rule out that I went and used quit, it was a very busy day; but wouldn't I have seen a warning in a big dialog, telling me that I was about to lose my character?
Any way - thanks a lot for saving me :-)

Log files confirm it, the quit command was used.fargris wrote: You say I quit? I am pretty sure I didn't - could this have happened because of an error or something?
Depends on which client and version of client you are using. More recent clients have a "bigger" dialog warning about the quit command.fargris wrote: I can't completely rule out that I went and used quit, it was a very busy day; but wouldn't I have seen a warning in a big dialog, telling me that I was about to lose my character?
