I may be able to make use of charisma reasonably effectively in conversations using the dialog system.

It wouldn't be hard to write a pre-test "convince"

I'm inclined to agree on that point.

I haven't yet committed the nobility quest changes I have made, but one of the things I have done is add a quest trigger on finding the correct entrance. - This doesn't make them easier to find, but does let you know when you have found them.

The other alternative is that it might be more interesting for some players to have a very low charisma character in order to make the use of shops harder.

Do you know about this page? Possibly some of the descriptions there could do with updating, and it looks like you have considered the matter in some depth.

The pets given by the summon pet monster spell currently are listed on this wiki page under the spell description for the spell.
